Special workshops

It seems like summer is a time to be lazy, but that’s not the case for the Health & Wellness Program. We have been busy seeing people via office and phone visits. Larisa’s Table Talk in July on eye protection from UVA/UVB exposure had almost 50 people stop by for some updated information and free sunglasses. We continue to meet with people looking for support for dementia and other chronic health conditions, caregiving needs, support for family caregivers, and isolation. In August, we’ve organized two important presentations and a fun event is scheduled to celebrate Older Adult Day – we hope you can join us:

Estate Planning Workshop by HERA (Housing and Economics Rights Advocates) Presenter: Kendra Bowen, Staff Attorney Tuesday, August 27 – 10:30 am – 12 pm
Learn about key concerns and important documents that will help you address handling your belongings and your health the way you want to. Those documents include a Living Trust, Wills, Power of Attorney, Advance Healthcare Directive, and Transfer on Death documents for certain kinds of accounts. Kendra Bowen is a staff attorney for this California-wide non-profit that provides a wide variety of services and advocacy for lower- and middle-income adults related to mortgages, lending, credit, discrimination, and more. Presentation is free. Please sign up at the front desk. Light refreshments available. Ice Cream Social and Lives Well Lived Screening Wednesday, August 28 – 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Join us for a cold treat on the patio, enjoy some music, meet new friends, and learn about programs and activities offered at the Senior Center. In addition, we will be screening repeat performances of the award-winning film, Lives Well Lived, in Room 231 at 10am and 1pm. Thanks very much to the SCWL members who have volunteered to help us serve. Laughter, learning, and ice cream – a very good day! Take care
